Decorah Beats Clear Lake, 3-1

A sluggish start by the Decorah team coupled with some bad luck resulted in a 0-0 score at the end of the first half of play. Clearly determined to prolong the season, Decorah came out the second have with an aggressive approach which resulted in a 2-0 lead before Clear Lake scored their first goal with about 12:00 minutes to play. A final penalty kick by Decorah provided the insurance they needed to take home the win.

The Vikings next game is on Tuesday in Waverly against Gladbrook-Reinbeck.

Decorah Wins First Tournament Game
Decorah 8 South Tama 1

It is clear that the Decorah Boys Soccer team is going to take every tournament game seriously, focus on good defense and solid execution of fundamental soccer strategy, and not overlook any opponent as they trounced South Tama 8-1 in the first round of tournament action on Thursday. Again, with five different players scoring goals and with multiple chances by several others, South Tama found themselves back on their heels throughout the match.

Players coming off the bench played aggressive soccer continuing to wear down South Tama throughout the second half of action. With no injuries and solid depth to the team Decorah is looking forward to their match against Clear Lake on Saturday. Game time is 10:00 am at the Waverly Soccer Complex.

Thanks!

A huge thanks to Deb Olsgard for making the buttons for the Decorah Soccer team and for providing the individual pictures of the players to be included on this blog. Also, Kim Barth has been a great help with preparing the lunches for the team when they are on the road. All of the organization of the team meals and the contributions of time and food to these meals have also been appreciated by everyone. All of these people deserve a regular word of thanks!

New Pictures!

After a miserable performance at the Dubuque game, the blog photographer redeemed himself with 26 new pictures on the Team Photo link for the Waverly game. Thanks, too, to Mike Blair for his contributions. Should you have any additional pictures to contribute, send them my way.

Goals Speak Louder than Words
Decorah 8 Waverly 0
The Decorah Vikings sent a clear message to the Waverly Wahawks with a convincing 8-0 shutout on Monday. The Cornelius brothers, Mitch and Marty, combined for 5 of the goals, Jason Olsgard added two more, and Garret Strand rounded out the scoring with the final goal on a terrific crossing pass from Kellen Shurburne. Coming back from a week of recuperation after an injury, Brian Jones was back in top form not allowing a goal in spite of some tricky weather conditions.
The junior varsity also posted a solid 2-0 win showing some excellent team play. Nick Barth, in his first complete game in the goal, recorded the shutout.
